Bar Bar Black Sheep
This is a charming but uncomplicated five reel slot game from Microgaming. With a set number of fifteen possible winning lines, cartoon style reel symbols and a simple but jaunty little theme tune, this game has the feel of an old school fruit machine about it. Reel characters even include traditional fruity symbols such as oranges, apples and watermelons. These are supplemented by a traditional farm scene, plus of course the BAR and black sheep suggested by the title. The background consists of a typical farm, complete with contentedly grazing sheep.
It may have the look and feel of an old style fruit machine, but the potential prize levels have more in common with a Las Vegas casino than a one armed bandit on Blackpool Pier. But this depends entirely on you. While the number of winning lines is fixed at 15, you get to choose from a great range of bet levels on this game, with the stake per spin adjustable from just 15p all the way up to £150. The prize multiples for a standard five in a row combination are not especially generous on this title, but these can be supplemented by the game’s unique Bar Bar Black Sheep special feature (see below). The wild symbol is “Bar Bar Black Sheep”, which can substitute for all other reel characters apart from Free Spin. You need to get three or more of these to trigger your free goes, winning 10, 15 or 20 dependent on the number achieved. All winning prizes are trebled, with the exception of the special feature combination. And that’s about it. No combinations of winning lines to mull over. No needless playing card values to clutter up the reels or spoil the rural theme. Not even a Gamble feature to choose when you achieve a winning combination. Just lots of different arable farm produce plus some sheep.
If you manage to achieve three symbols in a row of which feature the game’s title BAR, BAR, Black Sheep, your prize is awarded a random multiplier, which can be up to 999 x. Confusingly, the “Bar Bar Black Sheep” symbol cannot count toward this special combination.
This is a game for the player who just wants a bit of gentle fun out of their gaming. There are no complicated features to work out, nor tactically complex, randomly triggered special features to look out for. Just a nostalgic style game reminiscent of seaside amusement arcades in days gone by. Plus some sheep! Nevertheless, this is a charming game, with a puntastic title. It does what it says on the tin, and although the charm may be of the penny arcade, you do have the option of playing for high rolling casino style prizes if you wish. Realistically though, players looking for that kind of glitz and excitement will probably not be looking for a game with a sleepy farm and some monochromic sheep to play on. The rest of us will be happy enough whiling away some down time on this fun to play title.
